Name: Brigitte Gibbons

Job Title: Accommodation Services Assistant

What does your job at RGU involve?
I work for Accommodation Services, which is part of the Estate and Property Services for RGU. My job is all about helping current and prospective students with their accommodation requirements and queries. The Accommodation Services team is small, there are only 5 of us, so it is a busy department.

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love how my job is and isn’t the same each day. The enquires I deal with can be similar, but I often am surprised by some of the queries we get. I like being busy and interacting with different people and departments, and this position provides me with exactly that.

Tell us something about your work that might surprise?
I have no stories, I’m afraid. Having joined the RGU during COVID and due to restrictions, meeting and integrating with others has been difficult to do.

What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
I love Aboyne, it holds some very special memories for me.

Best holiday you’ve had and why?
Disneyland Paris – without a doubt. It was so much fun. Disneyworld Florida is next on my hit list.

Favourite TV show?
I really like American sitcoms and comedies, anything that makes me laugh out loud, like The Big Bang Theory, Brooklyn 99, Superstore. But my guilty pleasure is period pieces with a supernatural feel, like the Penny Dreadful series for example.

Favourite band/music?
I have eclectic taste in music, I like a bit of everything from classical to rock from all eras. Currently, I am listening to The Weeknd, Dua Lipa and Måneskin.

If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
It really depends on how hungry I am when I get there. If I’m hungry and could only have one course, then it would be steak. If I’m not too hungry, then I would have a pudding (I have a sweet tooth).

What would you say to anyone thinking about coming to work at RGU to persuade them it’s the right career move?
My working career in Aberdeen has mostly been in the Oil and Gas industry, both for producers and service companies, and I can honestly say that I am the happiest I have been in a very long time. Job satisfaction isn’t always about the money, there are many different things that impact on it.
