Iain Parkin

Name: Iain Parkin

Job Title: Lecturer in Nursing

What does your job at RGU involve?
Teaching on various modules across the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Paramedic Practice, and supporting student nurses who are out on practice learning experiences.

What attracted you to come to work at RGU?
It has always been my aim to work in higher education, I also studied here as an undergraduate back in 2004!

If you weren’t doing this job, what, in an ideal world, would you like to do for a living?
Hmmmm, something outdoors probably. Maybe taking guided walks in the mountains and other outdoor activities.

What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
A very tough question. I love the outdoors, so probably anywhere out in the Cairngorm National Park. In Aberdeen I’d say somewhere like Fierce Beer.

Best holiday you’ve had and why?
I loved spending time in Riga, Latvia. It’s a beautiful country with lots of history and very friendly locals. We got the train (old Soviet trains) to different parts of Latvia and swam in the Baltic Sea.

Favourite TV show?
Stranger Things

Favourite band/music?
My all time favourite band is Maximo Park. For background music I’ve started listening to Akira the Don.

If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
I really enjoy cooking at home, so I would go for something I rarely cook myself – langoustines

If you were in charge of the university for one day, what’s the first thing you would do?
I support Jade’s idea – Greggs on site. I originally hail from the Northeast of England where Greggs isn’t a bakery, it’s a way of life.
