Maria Robertson

Name: Maria Robertson

Job Title: Assistant Librarian – Customer Support

What does your job at RGU involve?
I oversee the “front of house” team in the library, making sure all is well with the Receptionists at the front desk, Library Assistants up on the floors, and out of hours shelvers.

What attracted you to come to work at RGU?
I actually did my BA (Hons) Information and Library Studies at RGU (many years ago!) and I’d always said it would be fabulous to come back and work here so I was delighted to get the chance.

If you weren’t doing this job, what, in an ideal world, would you like to do for a living?
Hmmm…I think I’m going to love my new job but I also love live music so probably some kind of PR for awesome bands or something that lets me go touring with them.  I already write gig reviews for 5D Blog.

What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
Any of the wonderful beaches and bays, I just love being near (or in) water!

Best holiday you’ve had and why?
Florida, – as you can see in the picture, my whole life I’d wanted to go to Disney and when our son was turning seven  it seemed a good time to justify it.  We did a couple of days in Universal and the rest of the fortnight in Disney and it was just as magical as I’d always hoped.  We made memories that will never fade.

Favourite TV show?
Brooklyn 99

Favourite band/music?
I have very mixed taste but my top three bands are Garbage, Kasabian and Busted – have seen them each several times!

If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
Dessert – anything chocolatey!

If you were in charge of the university for one day, what’s the first thing you would do?
Put a band in the auditorum in SIWB (after the library closes obviously!)  Live music is good for everyone’s wellbeing!
