Although most people probably think of RGU in terms of our (very good) teaching, we are, of course, also a university that places a great deal of importance on research.  Consequently, we were delighted when Samantha took a little time to tell us a bit more about what she does as a temporary research assistant and also a bit about herself and what she likes about Aberdeen  (despite living in Alnwick!)

Name: Samantha Kelly

Job Title:  Temporary Research Assistant

What does your job at RGU involve?
Finding relevant academic papers and related material, organising it and making brief notes to help facilitate the writing of papers.

What attracted you to come to work at RGU?
I am a PhD candidate at RGU and was thrilled to have the chance to take on research work as well.

If you weren’t doing this job, what, in an ideal world, would you like to do for a living?  I can’t imagine enjoying anything more than research, but had I been more genetically blessed a professional Crossfitter sounds fun!

What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
The hills, all of them! Sadly I don’t get to see them often as I live in Alnwick and work and study remotely.

Best holiday you’ve had and why?
LA on a yoga teacher training course, it was pretty surreal as the guy running the course was quite literally friends with the stars and a part time director.

Favourite TV show?
Either Doctor Who or Sherlock, I am unashamedly a geek!

Favourite band/music?
Most Rock and Alternative:at the moment probably Bring The Horizon and Billy Rafoul.

If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
Dessert, always dessert.

If you were in charge of the university for one day, what’s the first thing you would do?
In all honesty, probably panic.
