Recruitment is more or less back to normal at RGU, which is great for us because it means we can tell you more about the brilliant people who have come to work with us. Or rather, let them tell their own stories, as Ruth does here in our latest 60 second interview….
Name: Ruth Waugh
Job Title: Lecturer School of Applied Social Studies
What does your job at RGU involve?
I teach across the undergraduate and distance social work degree courses.
What attracted you to come to work at RGU?
I did my own social work training at RGU, a few years ago now… 22 to be precise! I have worked in the local authority in adult care services since then and I am passionate about learning and putting theory into practice and thought it would be a good time to pass some of my knowledge on!
If you weren’t doing this job, what, in an ideal world, would you like to do for a living? I would have my own coffee/book shop.
What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
I love the beach in Aberdeen and the parks.
Best holiday you’ve had and why?
Walt Disney World – lots of fantasy and luxury – total escapism!
Favourite TV show?
Jane The Virgin.
Favourite band/music?
Gary Barlow and classical music… quite a pair!!
If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
Swordfish and lovely veg.
If you were in charge of the university for one day, what’s the first thing you would do?
Get someone to take me round campus – due to Covid I haven’t set foot there yet!
