The next one of our series of 60 second interviews with members of RGU features an academic in Health Sciences, one of the university’s many strong areas of study – and one of great importance for the NHS and indeed the population at large…Karen Allan

Name: Karen Allan 

Job Title: Academic Team Lead for Dietetics 

What does your job at RGU involve?
I lead the team of Dietetic Lecturers and am responsible for
developing the Dietetic programmes of study. 

What attracted you to come to work at RGU?
I have come from the NHS but have been working in
various education roles for some time. I wanted the chance to be able to teach students again and to be able to develop people and the programmes of study. The School of Health Sciences has a great reputation and I thought it was somewhere I would feel at home. 

If you weren’t doing this job, what, in an ideal world, would you like to do for a living? I love radio and listening to podcasts, so a radio presenter (an introverted one!) 

What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
So many to cho
ose from…Crovie, it takes you back in time to what fishing villages were like and the sea views are dramatic 

Best holiday you’ve had and why?
A trip to the Marche region and Bologna in Italy – the company,
the weather, the walks and most importantly the food was amazing.  

Favourite TV show?
Currently Ted Lasso (apple TV)
 

Favourite band/music?
Tough one, but I am originally from Ireland and I like a traditional tune. 
 

If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
Anything with salmon or any seafood dish
 

If you were in charge of the university for one day, what’s the first thing you would do?
Practise some deep breathing and ground my feet to the floor, as that would be a big responsibility even for a day!
