Terri Foubister

We are kicking off our 2022 staff interviews with a really creative lady who has a penchant for roast dinners (preferably heavy on the carrots and Yorkshire Puds), not to mention Greggs…

Name: Terri Foubister

Job Title: School Engagement Assistant

What does your job at RGU involve?
I work in the Widening Access Department. We assist students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and support them in their time at university, we also run various programs in Secondary Schools like Access To, Northern Lights and our latest hub offering. I work with ACES (Access to Creative Education Scotland) to focus on Art and Design studies.

What attracted you to come to work at RGU?
I just graduated from RGU in the summer. I studied Communication Design at Grays School of Art, and my tutor sent me the job listing as he knew I wanted to work around Secondary Education. I am a creative at heart, I love to design and illustrate but education is very important to me. I really enjoyed my time at a student at RGU and I knew I could reflect this to potential students and have a better connection to those currently studying now.

If you weren’t doing this job, what, in an ideal world, would you like to do for a living? This job is quite hard to beat but I do hope one day to become a Secondary Art teacher, once I have established my career path.

What’s your favourite place in Aberdeen/Aberdeenshire?
I grew up in Balmedie after moving from the rural countryside, and to this day Balmedie Beach is my favourite place to return to.

Best holiday you’ve had and why?
In the summer I travelled around Scotland and the isles, and it was a fantastic holiday. I went with my partner and our little Border Terrier and enjoyed all the beautiful scenery that Scotland has on offer.

Favourite TV show?
Hard, hard choice… That 70’s show is a top one for me, but the nostalgia of Friends holds a dear place in my heart… and who can leave out The Office, American one only though!

Favourite band/music?
Panic! At the disco always a classic but I listen to many genres and artists, I do not have a favourite, changes too often.

If you’re going to a restaurant and could only have one thing to eat (one course), what would it be?
A roast dinner! With lots of carrots and Yorkshire puddings!

If you were in charge of the university for one day, what’s the first thing you would do?
Add a Gregg’s store to the campus, for sure.
